How to practice gratitude to improve your emotional health

Practising gratitude may seem a simple concept for some and for others it may be a struggle and yet practising gratitude is essential for not only improving your mind set but also to increase your own sense of self and personal happiness, therefore improving emotional health.
Here are some tips to help you to increase your gratitude
Always appreciate what you have as opposed wanting or feeling resentful of what others may have, wanting what is unobtainable will only make you feel frustrated and upset.
When others help you or a situation turns out to be in your favour always be appreciative and thankful.
Journalling or writing your thoughts in a diary can help you to reflect and acknowledge things that previously you hadn't considered .
Practice being mindful, live in the moment to savour every moment. Tomorrow is promised to noone but today and this present moment is.
Gratitude jars are a great idea. Why not write down all the things you are thankful for on a slip of paper then put in a jar. When you are having a bad day simply pull out a slip and remind yourself that life or a situation may not be as bad as you originally thought. Remember there is always someone in a worse position then you are.
If you are reflecting on something that is making you upset consider the worst case scenario and then rationalize it, as our minds will often make us believe things are worse then they actually are.
Do not try to change or get upset about things that are out of your control. This is life there will always be challenges and disappointments it is inevitable. It's how you deal with the changes that's important.
Keep expectations realistic as human beings we all make mistakes just ensure you take responsibility for your choices and learn from the consequences . We are always learning and growing and life will either be difficult or a pleasure, either way it will be a journey so make sure you are prepared emotionally for the ride. You will attract back what you put in, so practise gratitude whenever possible to maximise potential and lasting success and happiness.
