What does sexuality mean to you?
Sexuality is an interesting term when you think of the word what does it mean to you? Unfortunately we now live in a society where we are obsessed with physical appearance and as a result we are constantly bombarded with images of scantily clad women on social media striving for attention or other overly provacative material such as pornagraphic images and why? Because sex sells even if the images that are portrayed are completely unrealistic, that doesn't seem to matter ...
As a result of this superficialness it is easy therefore to get distracted as to what the true meaning of sexuality is. It is not solely focussed on physical attributes or appearance and striving to get attention but is composed of different elements and these are as follows:
Intimacy,(a deep feeling of closeness and connection with another) sexualisation (feeling sexual attraction towards another) sensuality( the gaining of satisfaction or sensual pleasure through the use of one of our many senses including sight, touch and smell), sexual identity( the gender which we are most attracted too romantically or sexually) and sexual health and reproduction(the sexual production of human beings).
When we are able to understand how our bodies and relationships function through the exploration of sexuality, we can then become clearer with an increased focus of what we really want, our values and desires, our beliefs and how we think and feel.
Sexuality determines who we are most attracted too and this can change over time, we are all different in what and who we find attractive. It is what makes humanity interesting if we all thought the same or were attracted to the same human beings it would be a very dull world.
So what are the different kinds of sexuality depending on individual attraction and preferences?
Heterosexual (attraction opposite sex)
Gay (same sex)
Lesbian (other women)
Bisexual (more than one gender)
Pansexual ( any sex or gender identity)
Unfortunately homophobic attitudes do still exist, we may feel we live in a modern society but this is not always the case, yet who are we to judge who another person chooses to love?
