Which style of meditation would be best suited for those struggling with emotional pain? A huge part of any relationship is learning to balance the good times with the bad, which is not always easy and there will come a time when due to circumstances that are often not within our control you will need to learn how to navigate the process of letting someone you love go. This does not always relate to a romantic relationship, it could be the death of a family member, a friendship that has run its course or even moving away from a path of life that is no longer in your future plans. Each of these situations can be equally devastating in its own way, especially if we were not prepared for the inevitable changes that come as the result of loss.as ultimately a part of giving your heart to another is the possibility of heartbreak one day, which can either be intentional such as a romantic break up ,natural such as a death , or due to unforeseen circumstances such as illness, an acci...

Which style of Meditation would be best suited to those suffering from Depression, Stress or Anxiety? As a rule it is important to find the style of meditation that is the best fit for both yourself and your lifestyle because then you will have a better chance of practising it on a regular basis. However, for those struggling with mental health concerns, especially Anxiety and Depression it is important to find a practice that particularly helps to increase your sense of focus which will enable you to find a sense of peace and stillness within the mind and body. The ideal meditation to help you do this is the Body scan because by tensing and releasing each part in turn it helps you to relieve the pressure within the mind from racing thoughts as you will be placing your focus within the body. When the mind is able to relax from overthinking and feeling consumed by negative thoughts or feeling overwhelmed, clarity naturally increases ,releasing panic and confusion, which enab...

How can meditation be beneficial for children?

Image
How can meditation be beneficial for children? We have spoken at length about the many benefits that meditation can offer adults but what about children? It is no secret that children learn boundaries and behaviour primarily from their parents or caregivers, from a very young age they start to learn about the world and depending on their upbringing this can be either a negative or positive experience which will shape them for the rest of their lives. It is thought that from the age of 4 years old children have the ability to learn meditation , although at this tender age between 3- 5 minutes daily, is generally the maximum time they will be able to manage. As a parent why not lead by example and spend a few minutes every day practising the art of stillness with your child ? Its a great way to bond in addition to helping them to benefit in many ways. These include increasing focus which helps them to become more aware of their emotions , meaning they can self regulate thei...

What is a mudra and how do they create energy in the body and provide an additional aid to meditation?

What is a mudra and how do they create energy in the body and provide an additional aid to meditation? Mudras traditionally originate from the Indian Vedic culture and in Sanskrit mean gesture, they are symbolic and are specific poses performed by bringing the hands and fingers together to create a certain pattern which aids in releasing energy from the body. So how is it possible that mudras can be so effective in releasing energy? The human body is truly remarkable in many ways including the process in which it is able to internally connect including the central nervous system. If for example we need to find a way to communicate so we can take a specific action, the brain will then transmit certain nerve impulses which will enable neurones to transmit information to each other and the relevant action will then be taken after been processed. When we place our hands into specific positions motor and sensory mechanisms within them send messages to the brain which allows th...

What does mindfulness mean and how can I learn to practice it? Meditation helps you to become more mindful by focussing the mind and mindfulness is the process of slowing down your thoughts and bringing your attention to everything that is occurring around you at the present time. In this busy modern world we live in our lives can be so hectic at times that it can be difficult to find the time to slow down and find an inner focus away from all the noise and external distractions which are often so apparent. To be mindful means to become fully present in the current moment without interpretation or judgement of any kind, it is comprised of three separate parts. First of all you need to determine what your purpose is because that is where you will place your focus, maybe you have a goal in mind such as you wish to achieve a promotion at work, now place your attention on the here and now of achieving that purpose and finally always remain non-judgemental in the way you choose...

When is meditation not recommended?

Image
When is meditation not recommended? We have spoken about the many benefits that meditation can bring, however it is also important to be aware that there may be times when it is not advised so why may that be? Suicidal Tendencys or severe mental health concerns Although meditation does indeed help to calm the mind and rebalance the body, this can only occur if the person practising is in the right state of mind and ready to receive the process, as otherwise the pressure of trying to calm the mind could prove to be too overwhelming, causing panic and possibly leading to Hyperventilation. Those who are holding a lot of Trauma It is common that when we are struggling with holding trauma we will place an invisible wall around ourselves as a form of protection. The problem there is that as a result we no longer feel pleasure either. Deep within the body in a space known as the cellular memory, it is where we store the trauma from the time of our birth. It is common during a h...
