What is the inner child and why is it so relevant?

Every one of us has an inner child within us, it is the part of our subconscious and emotional state that has been influenced by emotions, memories and beliefs from the past in addition to our hopes, desires and dreams for the future.

It is essential to connect with the inner child who resides inside our adult bodies to attain a true representation as to how we are really feeling within.

This is particularly relevant when we explore self esteem because the inner child experiences negative in addition to positive experiences and from those memories a blue print is formed which will affect how we connect within our selves as adults.

So how can you learn to connect with your inner child?

Our inner child is always with us, we just need to be willing to connect deeply within, as adults we are taught to be responsible and with that responsibility come commitments which cause concern and place mental and emotional Stress within our adult minds and bodies.

To engage with your inner child treat that part of your self just as you would a young child, be playful in your actions, speak kindly to yourself and validate how you are feeling. Journalling and meditation can help you to visualise your inner child, how they look, their age and their character so you can connect even more deeply. Practise hugging yourself, play pranks on others, play games, dance, draw or paint you can even use photos from your childhood to help you visualise easier.

By connecting with your inner child you will begin to understand who you are and why you behave the way you do in your adult self and if you are feeling upset or vulnerable then it is a sign that the inner child has been triggered in some way and therefore there is suppressed trauma and pain that needs to be resolved from childhood.

Writing letters or journalling can be incredibly powerful ways to heal, check in with yourself every day to see how you are feeling. I personally place my left hand on my heart and the right hand on my belly and breathe before I visualise and connect .Healing and loving your inner child is essential in learning to love and fully accept yourself.
