What is Acupuncture and Acupressure and what are the benefits ?

Energy healing treatments are holistic or complementary therapies that combine light touch with specialised techniques to release blockages and help to cleanse and rebalance stagnant energy helping the mind, body and spirit to connect once again. Two very similar treatments but with distinct differences!

What is Acupuncture and what are the benefits ?
Acupuncture is a form of Chinese medicine that involves inserting thin needles into the body at specific points to treat numerous health complaints and areas of pain and discomfort.
The treatment often lasts for 60 minutes and between 5-20 needles may be inserted which can be manipulated if needed for further relief . The needles will often stay in place for 10-15 minutes.
Throughout the body there are energy meridians or pathways and chi that flows, by stimulating specific points, endorphins are released which are natural.pain relievers , following a treatment energy can be once again activated and balance restored within the body . In addition blood flow is increased and the nervous system is stimulated
Acupuncture can help to provide relief from many conditions which include those listed below, but please avoid if you have a pacemaker fitted as the electrical impulses can cause stimulation ,in addition if you are pregnant please consult with your GP prior to treatment, although benefits can be gained in relieving labour pain.
Dental pain
Neck discomfort
Back pain
Osteoarthritis
Menstrual discomfort
Tension headaches or migraines
Fibromyalgia
Cancer symptoms
Joint pain
Asthma

What is Acupressure and what are the benefits?
Acupressure is similar to Acupuncture in its concept but it uses direct pressure from the thumbs or other tools as opposed to inserting a needle into the skin. The pressure can be applied over pulse points or trigger points to instantly relieve pain and discomfort , whilst increasing blood flow. Following a session relief is often immediate, however please be aware that slight bruising can also be a concern if you suffer from Diabetes, thin skin or poor circulation.
During a treatment pressure is often applied directly for between 1-3 minutes , followed by relaxation and then reapplied if necessary and treatments often last for 60 minutes.
Pressure should not be applied directly over boney areas, varicose veins swelling or areas of inflammation.
There are many benefits to be gained from this treatment and it is particularly recommended if you suffer from the following:
Depression
Insomnia
Nausea
