What is Pranayama and what are the benefits?

Pranayama is often used in yoga or meditation practices and means Prana (life force energy) and Ayama (extension and control) therefore it uses various techniques including alternate nostril breathing, bellows breath and balancing breath to control the Prana energy through the breath, connecting the mind with the body.
The breath is inhaled, held and then slowly exhaled in a controlled way and anyone can do it, including children if they can be patient enough!
The benefits of Pranayama include :
Increased clarity
Reduction in Stress
Increased energy
Lowered blood pressure
Improved digestion
Improved Sleep
Increased Immunity
