What is Pregnancy Massage?
In addition to providing relaxation and relief from discomfort pregnancy massage also helps to increase your range of movement and alleviate stiff joints, emotionally it helps to relieve feelings of Anxiety and apprehension which are perfectly normal and to be expected during Pregnancy .
During the massage the mother to be will lay on her side which is recommended as the safest position and she will be supported by pillows and bolsters,( although there are some specially designed massage tables with parts of them cut out to support your bump) whilst various massage movements including kneading, stretching and gentle effleurage techniques are performed to alleviate tension with the pressure being adjusted accordingly.
It is also possible to perform pregnancy massage on the floor or sitting in a chair which may be more comfortable during the later months and more adaptable than climbing onto a couch.
Pregnancy massage is perfectly safe if you choose an experienced therapist who is specifically trained as there are specific areas of the body which should be avoided during the massage.
