 Why a healthy balanced diet is so essential

As the saying goes you are what you eat and nothing is more true because food is the fuel that activates our body to function and controls the way we feel .
Following a healthy balanced diet allows us to protect our body by building up a healthy immune system against many serious health conditions including heart disease and Diabetes, by learning ways to adjust our bodies to consume less trans fats, sugars and salts we will naturally become healthier and stronger.
There are many benefits to following a healthy diet which include:
Strengthening the immune system
Supporting muscles and tissues within the body
Keeping teeth, skin, eyes and hair stronger
Strengthening bones and ligaments
Supports a healthy pregnancy
Aids a faster recovery from illness or can prevent one occuring
Helps the digestive system to function better
Helps to achieve and maintain a healthy weight allowing you to feel happier and live longer and more productive lives

Tips to help improve your diet

We have discussed the importance of painting a balanced diet so what are some ways in which you can do this?
Reduce intake of salt to help stabilise blood pressure
Reduce intake of sugar to stabilise blood sugar levels
Eat. high fibres carbohydrates when possible to get maximum goodness
Increase water intake to 2 litres daily
Reduce consumption of trans fats which are found unfortunately in all the tasty foods such as biscuits!
Reduce alcohol and coffee intake
Eat good fats such as Avocado to nourish the body
Include a palm sized portion of protein with every meal to help keep you feeling fuller for longer
Increase your intake of fruit and vegetables to 5 portions a day,if you struggle to do this try incorporating a daily smoothie or homemade soup
When consuming food watch portion sizes and stop eating just before you feel full to allow the body to digest easier
Do not eat a big meal late at night to allow more effective digestion.
