Why is getting enough sleep so important for our health and wellbeing?
There may be reasons why your sleep is disrupted and these include young children, illness, Stress and worry and fluctuating hormonal levels.
So why is adequate sleep so important ?
During sleep our bodies repair the cells,tissues and muscles
Improvement in our cognitive abilities
Increased immunity to ward off illness
Helps reduce the risk of serious health concerns including Heart Conditions and cardiovascular.
Improves mood and reduces Stress levels
Helps regulate weight control and hormonal levels
Tips to help you get more sleep
Set a regular time to go to sleep so you train your body and brain
Do not watch TV or social media an hour before sleep
Do not put your phone on the bedside table next to you as the rays amitted can affect sleep.
Camomile tea can help with relaxing the body
Exercise before sleep is beneficial to help to tire the body
Meditation before sleep can promote a deeper and more peaceful sleep.
Make sure your mattress is supporting you correctly and that the room is quiet and warm
Do not go to sleep if you have things on your mind as it will lead to a restless night. Try to sort out a solution prior to sleep
Meditative music can help with those who struggle to go to sleep.
Do not eat late at night or a heavy meal. Also avoid drinking alcohol or coffee late at night to help avoid restlessness
