What is Aromatherapy and what are the benefits?
The extracts are used in various ways but are most commonly added to a base oil for massage, but they can also be highly effective when used in diffusers, put in the bath, used as air fresheners, added to beauty products or skin care (we covered essential oils in a previous segment) .
A typical massage treatment generally lasts between 60 minutes to 90 minutes during which time the oils are massaged into the skin and the client will benefit from this method as the extracts are absorbed into the bloodstream , but also through inhaling the smell, which is equally beneficial.
There are a variety of oils and you should always do a patch test to check for allergies prior to using. Generally lavender is the safest oil to use and the most popular as it can be used in a variety of ways , including undiluted on the skin and offers many benefits including improved sleep and relaxation.
The oils should be used with care and the appropriate advice should be taken . They should be stored in a dark and dry place to preserve their properties. They are not always suitable for everyone and this includes children, pregnancy, epilepsy, eczema or psoriasis .
The benefits of Aromatherapy however are vast and include :
Improve digestion
Increased Immunity
Reduced Stress
Helps ease labour pains
