How can meditation be beneficial for children?

We have spoken at length about the many benefits that meditation can offer adults but what about children? It is no secret that children learn boundaries and behaviour primarily from their parents or caregivers, from a very young age they start to learn about the world and depending on their upbringing this can be either a negative or positive experience which will shape them for the rest of their lives. It is thought that from the age of 4 years old children have the ability to learn meditation , although at this tender age between 3- 5 minutes daily, is generally the maximum time they will be able to manage. As a parent why not lead by example and spend a few minutes every day practising the art of stillness with your child ? Its a great way to bond in addition to helping them to benefit in many ways. These include increasing focus which helps them to become more aware of their emotions , meaning they can self regulate their moods and emotions better, leading to less tantrums which will be a huge relief for any parent! Through becoming more focussed they become more calmer and mindful , enabling better focus at school ,therefore increasing cognitive development and quality of sleep increases as a result. It is interesting to note that many schools now offer yoga and meditation clases for these very reasons! Social development is such an important part of life for a child, meditation teaches them to become aware of who they are and what their needs are, once they start to understand themselves better it becomes easier for them.to form friendships and other social connections, enabling them.to become kinder and more empathic towards both themselves and others. In this modern world so many children are now becoming addicted to tv, social media or gaming in some form, which can sometimes have a very negative influence creating addictive tendencies and over stimulation leading to poor mood or explosive behaviour at times., creating strains on your family unit As a result creating a balance is needed now more then ever. #childrenmeditation #meditate #parentchildmeditation #connection #bondingwithyourchild
