When is meditation not recommended?
When is meditation not recommended?
We have spoken about the many benefits that meditation can bring, however it is also important to be aware that there may be times when it is not advised so why may that be?
Suicidal Tendencys or severe mental health concerns
Although meditation does indeed help to calm the mind and rebalance the body, this can only occur if the person practising is in the right state of mind and ready to receive the process, as otherwise the pressure of trying to calm the mind could prove to be too overwhelming, causing panic and possibly leading to Hyperventilation.
Those who are holding a lot of Trauma
It is common that when we are struggling with holding trauma we will place an invisible wall around ourselves as a form of protection. The problem there is that as a result we no longer feel pleasure either.
Deep within the body in a space known as the cellular memory, it is where we store the trauma from the time of our birth. It is common during a healing session for a client to dissociate meaning they remove themselves mentally from the mind and body to avoid having to process trauma. Many people will often go into states of meditation such as a kind of trance to escape the reality of life also.
Those with high responsibility jobs or lives
It may seem a simple concept and yet it is very easy when at work if you have a quiet day or you do not enjoy your job to simply zone out. Now in a typical role such as office work this may not cause too many problems initially. However in a job such as in operating machinery , acting or in an operating theatre as a surgeon not being fully alert at all times would have severe consequences.
Another example is taking a walk along a narrow path and not being fully present ...all potential reasons to rethink if meditation at that particular time is best for you.
