What is Ontology and what is its relevance in our everyday lives? Ontology is the study of our existence and how we choose to identify ourselves as human beings. If I was to ask you how do you define yourself which qualities would you relate to the most, would it be your physical appearance such as your height, weight, skin tone or colour of your eyes or perhaps you would describe yourself in an emotional sense listing your character traits such as kind and loving or maybe stubborn and withdrawn? It may even be you define yourself by a successful career or by being a mum of three children, everyone is different in what they perceive as the very thing that defines them as a person. At some point in life we will all make a decision on who we feel we are and it is through our life experiences and upbringings that we naturally form our own opinions about how we feel about ourselves and others which is greatly influenced by the quality of our thoughts. Although we do not have the abili

What is CBT and how does it have an impact on the way we think and behave towards our self and others? CBT otherwise known as Cognitive behavioural therapy is a social intervention which aims to help us better understand our behaviour and reactions simply by examining and paying closer attention to our thought processes. By focusing on our thoughts, beliefs and attitudes we are then able to make the necessary changes to how we feel about certain situations and hence make the necessary changes if needed to how we choose to react to them. As individual human beings we all interpret our experiences in life differently, however we all assign meaning onto all things all of the time. We are always aware of the choices we make but not always aware of the choices available to us. Most people are unaware why they react or respond to situations the way they do as often it is an unconscious process. All of these things will combine towards our sense of self-worth which we will then

How experiences from our past can go on to influence our future insights

How experiences from our past can go on to influence our future insights When we first enter the world we come in as a completely innocent infant and therefore our initial learnings in life will always stem from our upbringings, the culture that we experience within our family will always be initiated by our parents and caregivers and as a result from childhood we will start to form opinions about life and others which will be directly related to what we have learned through our life experiences. Our present attitude is therefore informed and influenced by our past history and there are 3 ego states, one of which we will undoubtedly adopt as taught to us by our role models previously. Can you recognise yourself or someone you know from these descriptions? The first ego state is that of parent, in this state it is inevitable that this person feels they know what is best not only for themselves but everyone else around them, depending on the upbringing they have experienced they wi

The LCB model for understanding people and why we think and act the way we do

The LCB model for understanding people and why we think and act the way we do   In order to understand ourselves and other people better, it is important to become familiar with the multiple energetic fields surrounding us which makes up our psych. We are comprised of multiple layers meaning as human beings we are incredibly complex, but by gradually unpeeling each layer we can become more familiar with the reasons we think and behave from the inside out. There are 5 different layers which enable us to understand how we experience life so what are these layers and how do they interconnect? The most outer layer is the physical, this is where we feel symptoms, illness or injury. Conditions may occur in the body such as us falling over and hurting ourselves, this is the least complicated layer to understand as physical problems can often be relieved by visiting a doctor and taking the necessary medicine or applying the relevant first aid. However sometimes the physical layer can

What are the roadblocks to listening within our relationships?

What are the roadblocks to listening within our relationships? One of the most important qualities of a relationship whether personal or professional is that both parties feel that they are able to communicate effectively and therefore are able to be fully understood. In our relationships there will be times when we have succumbed to road blocks, as imperfect human being s we all have done it at some point and therefore it can be interesting to become more aware of how we personally relate to others on a daily basis to help us not only communicate better but to be able to listen more effectively also. Have you ever found yourself doing any of the following? Ordering and commanding: Have you ever felt that you know what’s best for someone else that your way is the only way and have had no problem with openly expressing your own personal opinion? But while you were doing that did you stop to think that by being overly authoritative, it was actually incredibly belittling to the oth
