What is Hot Stone Massage?

Hot Stone Massage is an incredibly relaxing therapy that uses flat, heated volcanic stones to release tension from the body by easing tense muscles, stiff joints and damaged soft tissues.

A variety of different shapes and sizes of stones are used, prior to, during and after the treatment the therapist will use the appropriate shaped stone depending on the areas of the body that are being treated . As a guide the smallest stones are placed between the toes prior to treatment to warm the feet which allows the body to relax. During the treatment medium shaped stones which are flat and round in shape are held in the therapist's hands whilst the body is massaged using a variety of effleurage and petrissage massage techniques.
For areas of excessive tension that are difficult to access fully with the round stones specially shaped pointed stones are used to work into the trigger points for example into the shoulder blades and specific points on the neck.
For larger parts of the body such as the back the largest stones which are also flat and round in shape may be used to massage with but are most often used for placement allowing the heat to penetrate even deeper into the client's muscles.
By incorporating warm volcanic stones into the massage directly onto the skin relaxation can be felt at the deepest level which promotes a meditative state of harmony. A balanced flow of energy throughout the body following the treatment will leave you feeling grounded and completely relaxed.
